What about pay parity?

Right now, the majority of ECE teachers don't have pay parity with their primary and kindergarten colleagues, but the Labour Party committed to $600m to progress this during Election 2020 and we will be encouraging them to move quickly on this now they are in Government! Our first target will be making sure there is funding for pay increases in Budget 2021 in May.

Watch this clip from 1News about the need for funding from the Government now.

On 6 November 2020, NZEI Te Riu Roa raised pay equity claims that will span across the ECE sector!

The new Equal Pay Amendment Act gives us - as an education profession that is 85% female - significant new opportunities to ensure our work is fairly valued.

The Act creates a clearer path to pay equity for the many female-dominated roles in education that have historically been undervalued because they involve “women’s work” and the care and education of children.

We are making a number of claims across ECE, which will also cover everyone - not just the women who work in these roles.

Are you a qualified ECE teacher and want to know if you’re covered by a pay equity claim? contact us and we will get in touch to let you know if you’re covered by one of our pay equity claims - and, if not, how you could be.
